My relationships, memories and stories help me feel a sense of belonging.
Biyiparl gooral (lungfish) has his home in the river that shaped this country, waybare (home) is interwoven with the land, community, country and place.
A seed falls on the good soil and is watered by the rain that comes from the river, my (waybare) home is shelter for me and my family. Our children’s children will sit under the shade of this thoo (tree), swim in these kooron (rivers), catch the gooral (fish), hear the bird songs and beerarlem (messages), listen to the stories of our Elders and care for our land and for each other, because we belong to this place. My relationships, memories and stories help me feel a sense of belonging. This is my wider world. These are my neighbours, friends and family. Places like parks, gardens and open spaces and where I might look to for community activities and events.
