My idea of family may be different to yours and that’s ok. Family for me are the special people in my life including my friends, neighbours and others. I know It’s ok to talk about what’s happening for me and my relationships and these are some of the places I might go to seek help. This Thoo (tree), is a portrait of time and my nutchee (family), it gives shelter, life and food for all who live within and around it. Toolar (gala) and digears (willy wagtails) shelter in this tree, they are goolarn (beautiful) as they greet the ginmine (sun), and are busy with their families as they nurture and shelter their dupill (young ones / children), soaring and hovering, skilled hunters, for food and shelter. In many Aboriginal culture’s birds are messengers, totemic symbols of family, belonging and connection to country and place. My idea of family may be different to yours and that’s ok.
